Tell us about yourself:
I live in Charlotte NC with my wife Charis. We both work at the church we attend, Freedom House Church, and we both have side projects we're passionate about. I grew up in a small town Florida and moved to Charlotte going on 10 years ago. Charlotte is like literal heaven compared to where I grew up. I've attended 2 churches my entire life, the one I work at currently and the one I grew up in while living in Florida. I grew up with christian parents and grateful that they raised me to volunteer and serve others in church. That engrained a lot of how I am today. I started believing in Jesus around the age of 5 if I recall correctly haha. Since I grew up in church I've had my seasons of doubts within my faith, but each time I've arrived on the other side stronger in my faith in Jesus. I've learned that some doubt is necessary for faith, if you don't doubt something how can you have faith in something else.
Tell us about your church/company:
Freedom House Church is a denominational church with about to be 3 campuses in Charlotte NC. One of my favorite things we do is what we call "Forward" Classes. Where we encourage people to resolve the pain from their pasts and grow in awareness of who they are in Christ to equip them to move forward. Self Awareness is a big passion of mine and I love others being opened up to that.
What is your role/position at your church/company?:
I work as a Tech Director at my church, Freedom House Church. I started as a volunteer in High School and over the years got hired to do what I do now. I mix a lot of our weekends which is one of my favorite aspects of what I do. Weekly I help make sure everything is working properly within the gear of production, help oversee lighting programing as well as visuals on screens for worship.
I also have a side project I launched a few months ago, (Timbre Media) where I create music for any type of project (videos, etc). Music has always been a passion of my and I love getting to equip people using my passion for their passion. I'll be launch more custom options shortly, custom tracks, audio editing, etc; and I'm excited to see where that goes! www.TimbreMedia.co
What do you love most about your role?:
I love getting to work with other people who love creating an environment that looks and sounds good but not distracting so that the message for the stage is easy to engage with.
How did you end up in the role you have now?:
I've have a number of mentors that have helped me grow my skillsets and a lot of youtube and google searches. I didn't know what I wanted to go to school for at the end of high school and ended up discovering my passions through and internship at my church.
Ok...How did you hear about VMC?:
I honestly cannot remember haha. It was a few years ago when we were tired of everything out there and we were looking for something fresh. VMC was exactly what we needed and have been hooked since.
How often do you use VMC, and what do you love about what we do?:
Depending on our set list and feel for the weekend we use VMC for 90% of our worship visuals. We love the natural visuals that VMC provides instead of using cheesy CG visuals. VMC brings a more profession feel to our visuals that we havnt been able to get before now. We're thankful for what VMC is doing and makes getting a professional look for the weekends much easier than it was before.
Open space to write:
I'm interested where the next few years takes us within church production. I think with millennials there will be a shift starting where production will be more stripped back compared to what we have seen for the past few years. Still production that is professional, looks good and sounds good, but will be stripped back somewhat. I think the kind of content VMC is making fits perfectly with that trend.
